The Marching Cougar Band has made it to the KMEA state semifinals five years in total. The Cougar Band has made state semifinals for the last three years in a row and Mr. Dayton hopes to make it again this year. This year, the Logan County marching band has performed their show, Uncharted Waters, in many competitions. Their first competition was at Franklin-Simpson high school where they placed third overall and first in class 3A. The next weekend they performed at Russellville high school where they received the Reserve Grand Champion award and placed first in their class. The Cougar Band then hosted their home show where 16 bands from all over Kentucky competed on Logan County’s Field. The next competition changed history for Logan County’s marching band. At Mclean County high school, the marching band received the Grand Champion award. This award means that they placed first overall. This is the first time in Mr. Dayton’s tenure that the band has won the Grand Champion award (the last time was over 12 years ago). Mr. Dayton explains in his interview that in all his years of teaching, he has never had a band get Grand Champion. At the next competition, the Cougar Band placed first in class 3A. This means that the Logan County marching band was first in 3A in all of their in season competitions. This last weekend the band performed at Warren East High for their regional competition. 12 bands in the 3A west region competed to win a spot in the top eight to go to semifinals. The Logan County band made the top eight and is now headed for semifinals.

This is one of the most successful seasons that the Cougar band has ever had and Mr. Dayton hopes that the band wraps up the season on a strong note. As the band heads for semifinals they hope for a good performance to push them to state finals. Mr. Dayton says in his interview that he is very proud of the 2019 Marching Cougar Band and they have been very successful no matter what the placement is at semifinals.
